National Junior Honor Society

Welcome to the NJHS Information Center!

Chapters of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) have unique needs. This section is designed to address those concerns. While all of the content found on the Honor Societies websites is designed with both NHS and NJHS chapters in mind, this section contains information and ideas specifically intended for NJHS chapters, members, and advisers.

NJHS Handbook (login required)
The NJHS handbook provides you all of the latest policy and procedure guidelines from the national office. Download (login required) a complete PDF copy of the NJHS handbook. For individual sections of the NJHS handbook, please view the NJHS Constitution. All chapters of NJHS must conform to the provisions of the National Constitution. This document serves as the foundation for all chapter activities, policies and procedures. Answers to questions regarding the interpretation of the constitution can be found on this Web site, in the NJHS National Handbook, or by contacting the staff of the national office.

Why NJHS is Appropriate for All Middle Level Schools
Research identifies a variety of reasons why hosting an NJHS chapter is age-appropriate and integral to the success of any middle level school. Originally written by NASSP staff and published in the NJHS Handbook (2005), the text was updated in 2011.

NJHS Outstanding Service Projects
Each year, NJHS chapters across the country engage in meaningful service activities for their schools and communities. This section features descriptions of NJHS service projects that have been recognized as Outstanding Service Projects over the years.

Middle Level News 2011-2012
Be sure to view this collection of middle level school projects from 2011-2012. We share this information with our members to congratulate the many middle level NJHS chapters and student councils helping to make a difference in their schools and communities.

Breaking Ranks in the Middle - Executive Summary
School reform is addressed for middle level educators in this important publication (2006) from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). Additional information can be obtained from www.nassp.org/brim. Copies of Breaking Ranks in the Middle are available for purchase in the NHS Store.

Turning Points 2000 and Middle Level Activities
Middle schools that support and maintain strong cocurricular student activity programs, and foster the participation of students in them possess an important tool in the quest to achieve the Turning Points 2000 vision.

Be sure to look elsewhere on this site for information on the following activities that are open to all NJHS chapters:

  • LEAD Conferences
  • Visit the Idea Sharing section of this site for project ideas from chapters around the nation.
  • Look for official NJHS insignia and apparel, as well as publications to assist your chapter in all aspects of Honor Society activities, in the NHS and NJHS Store, the official catalog of NJHS and NHS.
