Ryan's Playbooks

While researching service opportunities, we came across Ryan's Playbooks, sponsored by DoSomething.org. We printed out templates and spent an afternoon with 60 students making activity books for school-aged children in hospitals. We made math puzzles, crossword puzzles, word-searches, coloring pages, artistic challenges, and word scrambles for over 200 patients. We delivered these books to St.Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. We have a second delivery, yet to be made.  Read More »

H.E.A.R.T.: Helping Everyone Acquire Rescue Training

Food Drive

Support of our local food pantry is a constant service our Student Council undertakes. In November, the Student Council ran its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive for the 14 consecutive year. Food was collected in November for families in need with an emphasis on providing a Thanksgiving meal for them, complete with the turkey, stuffing and all the trimmings. Operation Gratitude. Using guidance from the national Operation Gratitude website, NHS members from Epic Charter School in Oklahoma City, OK, took a day to write nearly 60 letters to military personnel serving overseas.

Community Welcome Buckets. The chapter at Milton Area High School, in Milton, PA, helped welcome new residents to their community by distributing buckets with welcome gifts. The project aimed to ensure support for schools from the whole community. They were also featured in the local paper!

Friends of Tree Planting. Chapter members from Benson High School in Portland, OR, joined with a local community group to plant trees and beautify their community.
