The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) is proud to announce that that Kelli Bradley of Mount Pleasant High School in Wilmington, DE, has been selected as the recipient of the 2017 Rynearson Adviser of the Year Award. Kelli has served as an NHS adviser for the past 11 years, earning the respect and appreciation of her students and principal.

As chapter president Emily Gripp states, “Through her compassion, dedication to helping students achieve success, and strong work ethic, she inspires all students in her class and members of the NHS chapter that she advises to become independent and caring young adults.”

Principal Heather Austin highlights Ms. Bradley’s “genuine, positive attitude,” her ability to hold students accountable, and set high expectations as qualities she admires in Kelli.

In addition to her duties as a classroom teacher and NHS adviser, Ms. Bradley has served as a delegate to the Delaware State Education Association for the last 16 years and has been an NEA Representative Assembly Delegate. She has been named teacher of the year for Mount Pleasant High School, and district teacher of the year for Brandywine School district.

In her application, Ms. Bradley identified a diverse list of activities in which her chapter is engaged. Most notably, the biennial MPHS Hall of Fame Induction raised over $2,500, and Pennies for Patients raised over $3,500 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

When asked to identify the value of offering NHS at Mount Pleasant High School, she says that, “many students get to see the impact that their volunteering has on the school and community by working closely with different students in the school and different organizations in the community. Many of these students wouldn’t have the chance to lead an event, and in NHS they get that opportunity.”

NASSP is the parent organization of the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society.
