How Does NJHS Selection Work?

Students

NJHS membership is by selection-only at the school level. The national office does not participate in any aspect of individual membership selection. Guidelines for membership are set by each school based on the requirements in the NJHS Constitution. Once inducted, members participate in a wide variety of local and regional opportunities to expand their leadership and are called to serve as role models in valuing the mindsets and actions related to the pillars.

Schools

Earning and maintaining a chapter of NJHS is a proud accomplishment for a school and its school leaders. Schools must apply for a charter to administer a chapter of NJHS. Upon approval, affiliated school chapters are required to set up bylaws in adherence to the NJHS Constitution and are responsible for administering and fully overseeing the student member selection process at their schools. The national office of NJHS and NASSP provides guidance, resources, and oversight to chapters.
