Recognizing the need to help middle level students jump-start their quest toward higher education, the National Junior Honor Society offers the annual NJHS Outstanding Achievement Award.
The award recognizes 500 exceptional NJHS students nationwide with a $500 award. It is placed in a college savings account to be managed by OppenheimerFunds (OFI Private Investments) as part of the New Mexico Education Trust Board’s 529 college savings plan—The Education Plan.
The 2017–18 NJHS Outstanding Achievement Award is now closed. Recipients will be announced in spring 2018.
NJHS advisers can nominate NJHS members who have demonstrated excellence in the five pillars of NJHS: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Financial need will also be considered based on income eligibility guidelines of the National School Lunch Program. Note that financial need is not a requirement for nomination or to be selected as one of the 500 winners.
There is no limit on the number of nominees.
To be eligible, students must:
- be a current NJHS member in good standing
- be currently enrolled in grade 6, 7, 8, or 9 at an affiliated school
Past recipients are not eligible to be nominated, but past nominees who did not win an award may be nominated.
