The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is proud to recognize the following recipients of the 2017 Outstanding Service Project awards.

Blankner K-8 School Love Wins Orlando, FL Adviser: Elizabeth Rimmer Principal: Dr. Junella Kreil Love Wins was hosted by Blankner School NJHS to support those affected by the Pulse tragedy, which happened less than a mile from the school campus. It was a benefit show that incorporated talent from 19 organizations including neighboring schools, community groups, and school alumni. A total of $5000 was raised and donated to The One Orlando Fund, which supports the needs of victims, survivors, and their families. Through the 285 hours of service Blankner’s NJHS students accrued to produce the event, they learned that in times of crisis they should do something and that in the end, Love Wins….always.

Lakeview Middle School Rainbow Food Drive Battle Creek, MI Adviser: Beth Rayner Principal: Mike Norstrom Forty-four NJHS 7th graders from Lakeview Middle School hosted a Rainbow Food Drive April 18-22, 2016. Each day, students and staff were encouraged to wear and bring in food donations the color of the day (or packaged in the color of the day). By the end of the week, 774 pounds of food were donated to the Food Bank of South Central Michigan, which serves eight counties and nearly 190,000 food insecure people. On April 23, 25 members packed 914 After School Packs to be distributed through Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes to children to offset weekend hunger.
