The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is proud to recognize the following recipients of the 2018 Outstanding Service Project awards.

	Murphy Middle School Block Bullying Murphy, TX Adviser: Laura Mullen Murphy Middle School NJHS collaborated with the entire student body, teachers, and administration in order to “block bullying.” Through letters and cards hand-delivered to the district’s three feeder elementary schools; a monitored “Personal Safety” box in the library; a Unity Day on campus; and positive, permanent artwork painted on the bathroom stall doors, the chapter raised awareness of the problem of bullying and combated its negative effects.
	Fairbanks Middle School Fairbanks NJHS Special Olympics Basketball Showcase Milford Center, OH Adviser: Holli Cline The Fairbanks Middle School NJHS chapter hosted a Special Olympics basketball game. They hoped to encourage positive social change in the community by encouraging interaction with special needs individuals. After careful planning, the members hosted the game on Saturday, February 25, 2017, in the middle school gym. The chapter made these children feel like winners. NJHS members ran a concession stand during the event and raised a total profit of $500, which was donated to the Union County Special Olympics program.
	Holmes Middle School Back-to-School Drive Northridge, CA Adviser: Robyn Albaeck The Back-to-School Drive focused on benefitting Los Angeles homeless youth by providing the essentials necessary for them to thrive in school. This project engaged the community by allowing students to donate to a cause while learning more about homelessness.
	Lakeview Middle School Be the Change Battle Creek, MI Adviser: Beth Rayner After witnessing the devastation of Hurricane Harvey on the Texas Gulf Coast, the Lakeview Middle School (LMS) NJHS chapter in Battle Creek, Michigan developed a week-long service project called, “Be the Change,” in order to support Rockport-Fulton Middle School in Rockport, Texas, which was severely damaged by the storm. From September 25–29, the eighth grade members collected change at lunch. They also conducted Miracle Minutes at halftime during three football games and at the LMS pep assembly on September 29. Bucket Brigades of students scurried through the bleachers for a timed minute and collected as many donations as possible. After advertising and promoting their project in the local news and on social media, the Lakeview school community and surrounding Battle Creek community came together to raise $2,000 for Rockport-Fulton Middle School, which was selected by the membership not only because of the impact of Hurricane Harvey, but also because they have an NJHS chapter.
	Imagine Charter Weston Ace Club Weston, FL Adviser: Jennifer Bucker The ACE (Attitude, Character, and Education) Club, comprised of students in grades five to eight, meets weekly under the supervision of a faculty adviser. During these meetings, students create hands-on, interactive lessons to teach the Six Pillars of Character to primary students. Club members take part in a month-long teaching cycle that includes brainstorming, researching, creating plans, gathering materials, and rehearsing leading up to their teaching assignments. After teaching for the month has concluded, students take part in a debriefing/reflective activity before moving on to the next month’s cycle. Reflections focus on what the students have learned and feedback provided by teachers hosting the club members in their classroom. Each month, the club focuses on a different character trait.
